VW CADDY 5
SALES TRAINING
PROJECT – Immersive Training
PARTNERS – Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles / Wollmann Consulting GmbH
The launch of the Volkswagen Caddy 5 during the Covid pandemic created significant challenges, particularly regarding the training of sales representatives for the new vehicle. Traditionally, this training would be conducted face-to-face, but the circumstances necessitated a shift to an immersive solution provided by Look.insite.

Process
Aim:
Provide sales representatives from a range of European markets an online replacement for the standard in-person training for the newly released Volkswagen Caddy 5
Challenge:
Develop a virtual training experience that effectively mirrors the in-person experience, equipping sales representatives with the skills to present the car to potential customers while gaining a thorough understanding of its technical features and detailed information. This training should also include demonstrations of key functionalities to enhance their practical knowledge.
Solution:
We opted to recreate the traditional order of sales journey around the vehicle, highlighting key points where an experienced salesperson would pause to showcase various features. To illustrate the Caddy’s standout capability—its highly flexible interior layout—we incorporated animations to effectively demonstrate this functionality.
Cockpit Capture
One of the main reasons our solution was the most suitable is that 360° photography inside a vehicle cockpit is particularly challenging due to the close proximity of elements to the camera. Overcoming stitching issues typically encountered with a one-shot camera requires a professional multi-shot setup. Additionally, professional cameras capture significantly more detail, enabling clear visibility of displays and small text that would otherwise appear blurry.
Multi Motion
In this project it wasn't just animation to open doors but also sequences of animation which would follow after each other for example you open the door at the side of the vehicle and then you fold the seats back. This required a layered approach which although it seems simple as the user is a complicated concept.
Opening Video
When the training begins, the initial screen is not the 360° environment but an introductory video designed to familiarize sales representatives with the vehicle’s marketing strategy. A key challenge was ensuring a smooth transition from the video to the training while also providing an option to skip the video for those who prefer to dive straight into the training.
Multi language
The Caddy training was made available in the native languages of various European markets, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Spain, the Netherlands, and Sweden. The localization process was straightforward: separate project versions were created in the content management system, all linked to the same visual content. Only minor adjustments were made to the user interface based on the specific market. This approach allowed multiple editors to work simultaneously, finalizing the wording in their respective languages efficiently.
Location
Shooting took place in the Volkswagen commercial vehicles factory in Hanover. The area in the background is where prototype vehicles are prepared for photo shoots or displays. It's like a little beauty parlour for vehicles.
Lying about your weight
An unexpected challenge arose during the creation of the animations. Typically, when folding seats and taking incremental photographs, the car remains in the same position. However, in this case, part of the process involved removing the seats, causing the suspension to gradually rise as weight was removed. Over the course of the animation, the car appeared to lift. To ensure visual consistency, we had to implement a few creative adjustments, or “cheats,” to make it appear as though the car stayed at a constant height throughout the sequence.
Team
This project is a collaboration with Wollmann Consulting GmbH, a company that specializes in providing in-person training for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and several other car manufacturers. Franz Wollmann himself was on-site alongside Nico during the shoot.
